Dr, Pepper Ends Licensing Agreement

On January 11, 2012, Dr Pepper Snapple Group and Dr. Pepper Bottling Co. of Dublin signed an agreement that would immediately end a licensing deal vogue since 1891. The bone of contention is about the logo--the name "Dublin" preceding the official Dr Pepper logo-- the bottling company is using and selling the Dublin-imprinted logo beyond the six-county geographic territory. As part of January 11, 2012, agreement, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group would pay an undisclosed amount of money to the bottler. The bottler immediately stopped production of Dublin Dr Pepper, and changed its name to Dublin Bottling Works.

History of Dr Pepper

* 1885: The original drink was born in 1885 in Waco, and created by pharmacist Charles Alderton.

* 1891: By 1891, a bottler named Sam Houston Prim was selling the drink from his plant in Dublin.

In 1980s, bost of the bottlers have switched from sugar to less expensive high-fructose corn syrup. However, the Dublin plant still stuck to its original root of Imperial cane sugar.
